چکیده

We study price formation in securities markets, using the sequential trade framework of Glosten and Milgrom (1985). This paper makes one basic methodological advance over previous research on sequential securities trading: we allow traders to choose from n trade sizes in a multi-period market, where n can be arbitrarily large. We examine how trade size multiplicity affects the intertemporal dynamics of trading strategies, bid–ask spreads, and information revelation. We show that price impact, as a function of trade size, is increasing and exhibits (discrete) concavity. & 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. JEL classification: D82; G12

Price Discovery in the U.S. Treasury Market: Automation vs. Intermediation

T paper examines the contribution to price discovery by electronic and voice-based trading systems in the U.S. Treasury market. Insider trading and information revelation with the introduction of futures markets

a r t i c l e i n f o We establish a theoretical model with informed trading in which both of individual stock futures and its underlying stock are traded in the market. With the introduction of the futures, the paper shows that an informed trader's position of futures usually motivates him or her to trade more aggressively in the stock market at the expiration day. This also worsens the advers...

Information Revelation and Market Incompleteness

This paper introduces a theory of market incompleteness based on the information transmission role of prices and its adverse impact on the provision of insurance in financial markets. We analyse a simple security design model in which the number and payoff of securities are endogenous. Agents have rational expectations and differ in information, endowments, and attitudes toward risk. When marke...

Dynamically Complete Experimental Asset Markets

We design an experiment to compare investors’ final wealth distribution in a static setup and an equivalent dynamic setup. In the static setup investors can trade all risks since there are as many securities as states of the world. In the dynamic market there are too few securities for investors to achieve efficient final wealth holdings without re-trade. Information disclosure and the possibil...
